Altenbrak

The climatic health resort of Altenbrak is part of the town of Thale. It lies in the Bode Valley, surrounded by mountain meadows and forests, close to the Rappbode Dam. Thanks to its sunny and sheltered location, the village offers a low mountain range climate that is ideal for climate therapy. Altenbrak is part of the holiday region Bodetal, which is also called the “Legendary Harz” because of its many myths and legends. You can explore the area along hiking trails, health exercise routes and Nordic walking paths, and experience the landscape at a relaxed pace.

On the eastern slope of Altenbrak you’ll find the forest stage, built in 1951. This open-air theatre is modelled after an ancient amphitheatre and can hold 850 visitors. During the summer months, music festivals and various theatre performances take place there.

At Altenbrak’s local history museum, you’ll get an insight into the region’s past life. On display are household items, farming tools, traditional folk costumes, everyday objects and historical photographs. For leisure and exercise, there is a mini-golf and chess course, an adventure playground, the Harz mountain sauna and, in summer, the outdoor mountain swimming pool with a sunbathing lawn and children’s playground.
