Christmas and Advent markets

With its small, decorated wooden stalls, the traditional winter market in the mountain town of Altenau invites visitors from December 18 through January 2. Every day from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., a varied program is offered along with mulled wine and treats.

Every year during Advent, the Aschersleben Christmas Market opens its doors and turns the heart of the town into a place full of anticipation for the most wonderful time of the year. With festive food, sparkling lights and Christmas magic, the beautifully decorated market square invites you to stroll around and enjoy, to share a mulled wine with friends, meet people and have relaxed chats. The cosy market square is the perfect place to enjoy the marvellous pre-Christmas season.

On 12 December 2026, Harriehausen warmly invites you to its atmospheric Christmas market in the park.

Look forward to some cosy moments in the run-up to Christmas. Numerous market stalls selling handmade products invite you to browse and find the perfect gifts. There will be plenty of tasty treats and a wide selection of drinks to keep you well fed and hydrated.

The Zech family, who have been running the ‘Wintertreff’ for many years, are serving almonds, mulled wine, eggnog and children’s punch, crêpes, lard cakes, poffertjes and, of course, savoury grilled dishes. The children’s carousel is waiting for young visitors once again.

Around the Behringer Fountain in Bad Suderode's spa park, local clubs are offering a colorful pre-Christmas program. A recurring highlight of the event is the Harz Mountain Parade, which is held as the State Mountain Parade.

The Upper Harz Mining Museum, in collaboration with the Clausthal-Zellerfeld Tourist Information Centre, invites you to a very special ‘Christmas Shift’ at the museum in Clausthal-Zellerfeld on the first weekend of Advent – 28 and 29 November: on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm, visitors can explore the buildings both above and below ground and experience mining in a festive atmosphere. The combination of industrial charm and festive cosiness makes this market an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

20th Harzgerode Advent Walks – Discover, stop for a bite to eat, enjoy. An annual pre-Christmas event held on the second Sunday of Advent, which sets the mood for the most wonderful time of the year!

When the scent of mulled wine, roasted almonds and fresh fir branches wafts through the historic walls, the Ilsenburg Christmas Market once again invites visitors to enjoy an atmospheric Advent weekend. From 4 to 6 December 2026, Ilsenburg Abbey will be transformed into a festively decorated Christmas wonderland, providing the perfect setting to get into the spirit of this reflective time of year.

When the historic courtyards in Lutherstadt Eisleben open their gates – which are usually kept closed – a very special Advent atmosphere takes hold. ‘Advent in Luther’s Courtyards’ invites visitors to rediscover the old town in an atmospheric way and to take a peek behind the façades of these historic houses.

Amidst festively decorated courtyards, the glow of lights and the scents of Christmas, visitors can look forward to a varied programme featuring regional crafts, culinary specialities, music and moments of reflection.

This anniversary exhibition focuses on sweet treats. Fifteen florists, in collaboration with Thüringer Glaszauber from Lauscha and other lenders, are creating a fantastic display that stretches from the historic distilling room through the mill room to the barrel cellar.

he 2026 Osterode Christmas Market invites you to the festively decorated Kornmarkt in the heart of the old town from 25 November to 29 December. Look forward to a magical Christmas atmosphere, a large mulled wine hut, culinary specialities, a varied stage programme and numerous highlights for the whole family – including children’s activities, curling, the living Advent calendar and a visit from Father Christmas. A charming meeting place for connoisseurs, families and anyone who wants to experience the Advent season in the Harz Mountains.

Quedlinburg is once again transforming into THE Advent town. The Christmas market in the World Heritage city of Quedlinburg has become one of the most beautiful and popular in all of Germany. A well-rounded selection of crafts and culinary delights is sure to make everyone’s heart beat faster. Set in a unique atmosphere, framed by half-timbered houses and the 700-year-old town hall, the market runs from November 25 through December 22 and features plenty of musical highlights throughout.

Our “Advent in the Courtyards” is one-of-a-kind in all of Germany. On the first, second, and third weekends of Advent, Quedlinburg’s most beautiful courtyards reveal what lies behind their otherwise closed doors. On historic cobblestone streets, we offer rare finds and little treasures that we seek out, collect, and craft especially for these few days. All of this takes place in an atmosphere that truly deserves the name “CHRISTMAS-LIKE.”

When thousands of lights shine in Seesen town centre and the scent of roasted almonds and mulled wine fills the air, it means it’s that time of year again: the festive season on Jacobsonplatz in Seesen has begun!

This year, the ‘Seesen Magic of Lights’ is once again delighting visitors with not only the popular Twinkly light display at the Jacobson House but also an ice rink for young and old alike! On an ice surface of around 300 m², visitors can go ice skating or try their hand at curling. An on-site skate hire service provides all the necessary equipment.

The outdoor area will be transformed into a small market with lovingly decorated market stalls and festive lighting. In addition to food and drinks, Christmas decorations will be available for purchase. There will also be a Christmas tree sale again this year.
A prayer service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the church, followed by a communal Christmas carol sing-along accompanied by the harmonium. The “Stieger Turmbläser” will entertain Christmas market visitors with live music. Santa Claus is expected around 5:00 p.m. to bring gifts for the children.

The monastery forecourt is transformed into a festive, sparkling winter village. Immerse yourself in an atmospheric Christmas world with glowing decorations, delicious food and warm drinks. Whether it’s a family outing or a cosy evening with friends – there’s something for everyone here.

The Wernigerode Christmas Market opens its doors on Friday, November 20, 2026. More than 60 vendors and food vendors will create a festive Christmas atmosphere, offering traditional handicrafts, culinary delights, and, of course, delicious mulled wine specialties throughout the Market Square, Breite Street, and Nicolaiplatz. Christmas carols and festive Advent music will ring out from the Christmas market stage in front of the historic town hall.

Once again this year, the Lichterkirche and the winter market at the Blumenuhr will ensure that the city’s many visitors have plenty to enjoy between the holidays and through January 6. Live music will be performed daily on the stage at the Blumenuhr.
