Harz Monasteries

The Harz Monasteries are an association of former monasteries, churches and tourist institutions within the Harz Tourism Association e. V. The goal is to keep the monastic heritage in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt alive and to pass it on.

For centuries, the monasteries in the Harz have been regarded as places of reflection and inner strength. Even without religious communities, they still radiate their energy today. Here you'll find places full of history, culture and hospitality – and a diverse monastic landscape.

From June to September, five monasteries invite you to the Harz Monastery Summer. During this period, the “Blue Stamp Box” travels from one location to another. You can visit monastery festivals and markets, listen to concerts or join guided tours. Throughout the year, the monasteries are open for you – offering quiet rooms and special insights into times gone by.

When autumn begins, the series of events called “Spiritual Autumn” leads you through the darker months. It provides space for contemplation and a transition into winter time.

The Harz Monastery Trail connects the towns of Goslar and Halberstadt over 116 kilometres. Along natural paths, you can visit churches and monasteries, find peace on the way and bring body, mind and soul into harmony. A backpack is all you need to hike the route either in stages or all at once.
