At the NatUrzeitmuseum, you’ll embark on a journey through 290 million years of the Southern Harz’s natural history. At the Salztal-Paradies water park, you’ll find a swimming and sauna area featuring a wave pool, a tyre slide, a white-water whirlpool, various saunas and a children’s area. The ice rink at Salztal-Paradies is open all year round and offers ice skating, ice hockey and curling.
Along the ‘Grünes Band’ (Green Belt), the former inner-German border strip, you can explore largely unspoilt flora and fauna. The Bad Sachsa Borderland Museum provides information on the history of this landscape and the inner-German border in the Southern Harz. The permanent exhibition ‘Our True Identity Was to Be Destroyed’ – The Children of 20 July 1944 offers further insight into this history. Very close to the Vitalpark lies the Schmelzteich, which is ideal for a pedal boat ride and serves as the starting point for numerous walking trails.
The 659-metre-high Ravensberg, Bad Sachsa’s local mountain, is a popular destination for day trips. It can be reached on foot as part of a hike, by bicycle or mountain bike, or by car, and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding area – on a clear day, you can even see as far as the Brocken. In winter, when snow conditions are good, the Ravensberg attracts families with children in particular for tobogganing. The districts of Neuhof, Steina and Tettenborn are part of the well-signposted network of hiking trails. In Steina, a visit to the Glass Museum is well worth it; Neuhof impresses with the Sachsensteinklippen cliffs; and between Tettenborn and Steina lies the Römerstein natural monument.
