Elbingerode

including Benneckenstein, the cave village Rübeland, Neuwerk and Königshütte

The traditional mining town of Elbingerode lies sheltered at the transition from the plateau of the Lower Harz to the mountainous Upper Harz. As a state-recognised resort, Elbingerode, at an altitude between 450 and 480 metres, enjoys a distinct low mountain range climate.

Hikers, cyclists and nature lovers will find here, amidst a varied landscape, a well-marked network of hiking trails and many cycling routes. In addition, there are various sights and viewpoints that invite you to explore.

A special attraction is the circular mining history trail through the Bodfeld area. On information boards, you can learn in detail about the region’s more than thousand-year-old mining and smelting history. You can gain further insight into the mining past at the Büchenberg Show Mine. On guided tours underground, you’ll get to know how the mining machines work and what the miners’ work was like.

On hot summer days, the natural swimming pool, supplied with spring water, offers a refreshing break. It’s quietly located and invites families to swim and relax.

The cultural offer is complemented by the local heritage room, the gallery in the Deaconess Motherhouse and the town church. In winter, a groomed cross-country ski trail network and the toboggan slope at the water station provide plenty of outdoor activity. You can get more information from the Elbingerode Tourist Information and on the winter sports page for the town.
