Hohegeiß is a district of Braunlage. This holiday resort lies 642 metres above sea level, surrounded by mountain meadows and forests.
The pure air, the unspoilt surroundings and the species-rich mountain meadows with rare plants and herbs offer great conditions for peaceful days in nature. A walk through the village takes you to the wooden church “Zur Himmelspforte” (Heaven’s Gate) dating back to 1701.
The local history museum “Alte Pfarre” is located in the oldest house in the village. There, you can gain insights into the history of Hohegeiß and the time of the inner-German border, which once ran directly past the town.
If you like being active, you’ll find numerous hiking and mountain biking trails around Hohegeiß. In the summer months, the forest swimming pool with a diving tower and beach volleyball court offers opportunities for refreshment and exercise.
In winter, the area turns into a white landscape. Well-prepared cross-country trails and winter hiking paths lead you through the snow-covered village. The “Am Brande” ski centre, a toboggan run and the natural ice rink complete the winter sports offer. You can find more information about this on the winter sports page.
