Wildemann

The mountain town of Wildemann is located in the Upper Harz, surrounded by the valleys of the Innerste and Spiegeltal rivers. At the centre of the town stands the Maria Magdalena miners’ church.

A network of hiking trails takes you along different routes over gentle slopes and through peaceful side valleys. You’ll walk past clear streams and meadows filled with mountain flowers. Benches and shelters along the way offer places to rest. Information boards provide insights into the nature and culture of the region. In summer, cool, clean waters invite you to go for a swim.

Whether you prefer mountain biking, cycling, jogging or Nordic walking, you’ll find suitable routes all around Wildemann.

The 19-Lachter-Stollen visitor mine used to be one of the most important drainage tunnels in the Upper Harz silver mining industry. Today you can experience, 100 metres below ground, how mining was carried out in Wildemann.

The typical landscape of the surrounding area includes the Harz Red Cattle. This breed has shaped the town’s history and can still be seen today at the mountain farm “Little Tyrol”.

In winter, you can explore the snow-covered mountains on groomed cross-country ski trails or on a winter hike. In the Spiegeltal valley, an 800‑metre toboggan run offers plenty of outdoor fun. You can find more information about winter sports activities in Wildemann on the winter sports page.
