Wolfshagen in the Harz

The state-recognised climatic health resort of Wolfshagen is considered the birthplace of Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg, who later became the piano maker H. E. Steinway. The town lies between the Innerste and Grane dams in the northern Harz Mountains. Surrounded by mountain meadows and gentle hills, a varied landscape opens up here.

Numerous hiking trails lead through forests and valleys around Wolfshagen. The network of paths connects the town with the Innerste and Grane dams. Wolfshagen is also a starting point for mountain bikers: from here you can access the trail network of the Volksbank Arena Harz.

From several viewpoints you can enjoy wide views over the Harz landscape. In a renatured quarry and in the nearby nature reserve, you can discover rare species of animals and plants.

Depending on your interests, you can use the Innerste Dam for surfing, sailing or simply relaxing in the sun by the shore. In the summer months, the Wölfi pool attracts many visitors. The forest outdoor pool covers an area of 15,000 m² and offers swimming, non-swimming and children’s pools. A diving facility, sunbathing lawns with a beach volleyball court, an adventure playground, a mini golf course and a barbecue area are also available. There is a campsite right next to it.

A special hiking trail is the Steinway Trail, a cultural-historical path between Wolfshagen and Seesen that recalls the history of the Steinweg family. Another route is the theme trail “Trace of the Stones”, which takes you through various landscape forms. Dog owners will find an off-leash area in the town.
