This circular hiking route starting and ending in Stecklenberg is relatively short but has a total of around 150 meters of elevation gain with some fairly steep climbs. However, these are worth it, because besides a wonderful view over the village, this hike also offers the remains of two former castles.

Directions
The starting point of this hike is the hiking signpost tree opposite the Stecklenberg church. To the left at the community office, follow the green bar and crown marking, shortly afterwards you pass the giant slide.
Now the path leads steeply uphill to the pulpit under the large oak tree and then a few more meters steeply uphill to the ruins of Stecklenburg. From here you have a lovely view of the village of Stecklenberg and as far as the Devil's Wall near Weddersleben. Alternatively, you can also choose the path through the spa park and walk to Stecklenburg via the calcium spring (approx. 1.3 km).
From Stecklenburg you follow the hiking trail with the same marking to Lauenburg, where the home of the Paritätischer Welfare Association and a viewpoint with a beautiful view of the Harz foothills and as far as Quedlinburg are located. From here a short detour to the ruins of the former main castle is worthwhile. To do this, go back about 200 meters on the hiking trail and then uphill via a narrow and somewhat difficult path branching off to the right of the hiking trail. The reward for this effort is among other things an old lime tree, whose roots have anchored themselves on the old masonry.
From the viewpoint at the home, you then pass an information board about the history of Lauenburg and the former tower of the outer castle. Afterwards, after a few meters, you come to a crossing with signpost tree and then hike back through the Wurmbachtal to Stecklenberg (blue dot). From the bridge over the Wurmbach, the path along the stream is worthwhile. This path is especially beautiful when the stream carries enough water.
