Directions
Today's hike is a moderately difficult approximately 5 km long hike on part of the Harzer Baudensteig. The ascent starts behind the Heimatmuseum in the Kurpark, immediately leading to the first stamp, the Little Horse (Stamp 58). The "Little Horse" (approx. 430 m above sea level) is a viewpoint high above the South Harz community of Zorge. The Little Horse was voted the most beautiful stamp station by our hiking friends in 2013. This is due partly to the wonderful view over Zorge, but also because the pavilion is always very well maintained. From here, the route continues along the Harzer Baudensteig, which is also called Beautiful View up to Helenenruh. At Helenenruh (Stamp 160), which is also located on the Harzer Hut Trail between Wieda and Zorge, is the second stamp station of this route. On the Hut Trail, the red iron ore mined in the Wieda and Zorge mining areas was formerly transported to the blast furnaces in the valley using horse-drawn wagons.
