Demanding cross-country ski trail from Benneckenstein via Rothesütte to Sophienhof across open terrain.

The route can be divided into a small loop and a large loop.

Small loop:

Benneckenstein - start at the mountain inn "Waldschlösschen" –

towards Thuringia (Dammbach meadows – Vogelherd) to Rothesütte and back via Buchenköpfe and Rehkopf to Benneckenstein mountain inn "Waldschlösschen."

Large loop:

Benneckenstein - start at the mountain inn "Waldschlösschen" –

towards Thuringia (Dammbach meadows – Vogelherd) to Rothesütte and further via Dreiländereck, Stierberg Pond to Sophienhof guesthouse "Brauner Hirsch."

Return trip from Sophienhof via Stierberg Pond, Buchenköpfe and Rehkopf to Benneckenstein mountain inn "Waldschlösschen."

You can reach Benneckenstein by car

- from Wernigerode via B244, turnoff Elbingerode B27 continuing to turnoff Königshütte B242 and from Tanne onto L98

- from Braunlage via B242, turnoff Tanne onto L98

- from Nordhausen via B4 to turnoff L98 Benneckenstein

Parking is available "Am Waldschlösschen."

You can reach the Harz town of Benneckenstein by bus from the Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe:

from Wernigerode

from Blankenburg

from Braunlage 

or

by the Harzer Schmalspurbahn from Wernigerode or Nordhausen.
