A hike to a slowly dying natural monument.

Passing old orchards, we ascend through the romantic Luhebach valley to the edge of the forest. Scenic field and forest paths then lead further to the Kopfbuche. Its branches broken off in storms reveal the size of this once mighty Süntel beech.

Directions

The hiking trail begins at the village fire brigade equipment house and leads west out of the village. At the first fork, keep left and ascend the beautiful Luhebach valley without turning off. At the forest edge, continue right, then at the next intersection turn right again onto a field path up the slope. Stay on the paved path until the second crossroads opposite the shooting range. There, keep left to the intersection at the forest corner and follow the path straight ahead past a shelter to the Kopfbuche without turning off. After reading the information board about the Süntel beeches, our path leads straight down between the fields. We cross a field path and reach an old field barn on a grassy path, where we turn right and soon return to Gremsheim following the trail signs.
