Directions
- The hike to the Maaßener Gaipel begins at the hiking meeting point at the Kurhaus in Hahnenklee. First, walk towards the mini-golf course and then follow Lautenthaler Straße all the way to the end. At the former hotel Am Waldgarten, a narrow footpath leads you over the Ringweg to the Fuckelweg. This takes you slightly downhill to Hahnenkleer Bergstraße. Follow the road to L 516. Cross the country road and walk about 100 m along Sägermühlenweg until you see the signpost for the path “1R red dot in triangle” on your right. Following this path, you reach Kranichsweg. The forest road runs along the northern slope of Kranichsberg with a slight descent to Maaßener Gaipel (stamp point 107). After a break, go back onto Kranichsweg, turn right into it, and after 100 meters reach a fork in the path. Here, take the left Rotkreuzweg (wide forest road). On this 4 km long, continuously ascending path (Attention: hardly any rest breaks possible!), you hike until you turn left onto Sägermühlenweg. At this intersection, you also find a hut of the Harz Club as a shelter option. Sägermühlenweg leads you back to Hahnenkleer Bergstraße and past the Gottlob shelter. Then, take the Fuckelweg diagonally right again and – always with a view of Bocksberg – reach the upper part of Lautenthaler Straße in Hahnenklee within a few moments. After a few minutes, you reach the starting point of the hike.
