Through the picturesque landscape of Eichsfeld, partly in the shade of Pappelallee and Birkenallee, you cycle to the Heinz Sielmann Nature Experience Center Gut Herbigshagen.

You pass through the meadows and fields of the Hahlen lowlands, through Lindenallee and along Pappelallee. The route takes you past Tettelwarte, which is part of the medieval fortification system of the town and today has a transmission mast. You continue cycling along Birkenallee, which was almost destroyed by a tornado in 1997 and had to be replanted. At the highest point stands a small, romantic chapel in a picturesque setting, the Franz-von-Assisi Chapel. Afterwards, you reach the Heinz Sielmann Nature Experience Center Gut Herbigshagen, where you can experience nature up close. The return way leads through the recreational area "Im Leeren."

Directions

Your approximately 16 km long bike route starts in the old town of Duderstadt, directly in front of the historic town hall. You ride down Marktstraße, turn right at the Unterkirche into Spiegelbrücke, and pass through the historic Westertor. At the end of Westertorstraße, you cross an intersection. On the other side, the bike path begins, on which you can ride to Westerode. In front of Westerode Church, turn right (In der Bülte). You ride about 2 km on a farm road through the meadows and fields of the Hahlen lowlands. At the end of the path, turn right towards Mingerode, through Lindenallee and across the federal highway. Behind the "Elferratskeller" turn left and ride out of town on Hellbergstraße. After about 3 km, partly along Pappelallee and crossing L530, turn left into "Birkenallee," a street over the heights of Duderstadt towards Rote Warte. Passing by the foot of Tettelwarte, you will soon see the avenue of birches, which you still have to pass after a short climb. After a small downhill section, turn right at a transformer house and reach Gut Herbigshagen after a few hundred meters. The return route leads you through the recreational area "Im Leeren." At the end of Leerensche Rinne street, turn right into Ebertring and at the roundabout into Neutorstraße. The adjoining Jüdenstraße leads you back directly to the town hall.
