Directions

The start of this approximately 30 km long historically rich bike tour is at Marktstraße / Jugendherbergsstraße. Parallel to the road to Walkenried, you use the bike path to the "Priorteich" parking lot. There turn right into the nature reserve "Priorteich-Sachsenstein," a limestone beech forest to Walkenried station. Here you then ride toward the town center, where you can already use the Cistercian Museum Monastery Walkenried for the first rest and visit. The monastery also has a monastery café for refreshments. It continues southeast of Walkenried through the nature reserve "Itelteich." Here the paths are partly a bit bumpy. Along old orchard areas, you ride over the Wiedigshof back to Walkenried. Past the Röseteich, on country road 603 via Kutzhütte, you arrive at Neuhof. Here you should definitely plan a rest at the Sachsenstein wall and make a detour to the rabbit ponds. Beautiful spots for a picnic. Now you continue past the wind turbines through Tettenborn and then reach Nüxei. After a climb to the Roman Stone, it continues to Steina with the Glass Museum. The last small climb of the tour is on district road 15 over Warteberg. You return to the starting point via a rapid descent. Here you can refill the burned calories in cafés or restaurants.
