The six ponds, which look as if they were punched out of the forest, were built around 1680 to supply the numerous mines in Bockswiese. Together they hold about half a million cubic meters of water. The scenically appealing path leads from the Auerhahn pond along historic water-carrying and dry ditches to the Grumbach ponds and the raft ponds near Bockswiese.

Directions
Already at the Auerhahn parking lot, the beginning of the hike, you have a fantastic view over the first pond of the Auerhahn cascade. This beautiful landscape once belonged to the most important pre-industrial
energy supply systems. You hike along the six ponds, which look as if they were punched out of the forest and are arranged in a cascade to transport the few flowing waters from one pond to the next. The path has little incline or decline and is well suited for a pleasant walk. In Bockswiese and at Kreuzeck, you can stop for refreshments, and the path also offers many inviting places to rest with views over the ponds. The route leads from the Auerhahn pond along historic water-carrying and dry ditches to the Grumbach ponds and the raft ponds near Bockswiese.
