Path of Reflection at the Neuwerk Church in Goslar

Guided tour
The former monastery church of the Cistercian convent, founded in the 12th century, is a three-nave cruciform basilica and is considered one of the most significant Romanesque churches in the Harz Mountains.
The fact that all of its architectural elements still reflect the condition they were in at the time of construction makes it a rarity in northern Germany; its construction spanned at least 100 years. The precious murals, which can be viewed on this spiritual tour through the church, were likely created around 1225.

As in all medieval churches, the church’s central nave symbolizes the journey of life: It begins with a blessing and leads through light and shadow, good and evil, beneath the cross and into heaven. The path through the church traces this journey of life; several stations vividly mark the stages of life with brief reflections and simple chants by candlelight. The tour is organized and led by retired Pastor Axel and Claudia Lundbeck.
