Alongside the main route of the Harz Monastery Hiking Trail between Goslar and Halberstadt on the northern edge of the Harz, additional monastery hiking trails are being created. These specially designed circular and themed routes take you to monasteries that are not directly on the main path. This way, you can discover more sites and hike them on well-maintained stages.
The monastery hiking trails are generally one-day stages. The start and end point is always a partner monastery of the Harz Monasteries division. The first in this new series is the Walkenried Monastery. It’s located in the South Harz karst landscape – a diverse hiking area – and serves as the starting point of the first circular route.
