Big Castle Blankenburg
The Grosses Schloss is a striking landmark of the pretty Harz town of Blankenburg. This magnificent but dilapidated Baroque building was once the starting point and centre of the varied courtly life during the reign of Prince Ludwig Rudolph of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1671-1735).
The theatre hall, the octagonal chapel, still in its present condition impressive wall decorations, priceless fireplaces and stoves are only a fraction of what was built during the time of the important master builder of the largest preserved Guelph castle, Hermann Korb (1656-1735). Take a guided tour and learn about the old splendour and the discoveries made during the ongoing restoration work.
