An attractive memorial has been created for them at the historic ascent into the Harz Mountains. Hikers can take a seat right next to a pannier woman and rest with her. Or, by lifting a 40 kg pannier, they can feel how heavy the energetic women, popularly known as "Harz camels", had to carry.
