Ehemaliger Klosterort Himmelpforte
The former Augustinian monastery Himmelpforte was founded in 1253 by the knight Dietrich von Hartesrothe. After the monastery was stormed during the Peasants' War in 1525, the monks fled. The monastery building stood until the beginning of the 18th century and served as a popular place of pilgrimage during its existence. Several trout ponds and the remains of a monastery foundation wall have been preserved to this day. In the immediate vicinity is a memorial stone to Luther's stay at Himmelpforte Monastery in 1516. This place where the great reformer stayed is one of the Luther sites in Saxony-Anhalt. An angel's bench invites you to take in the quiet and green place.
