Monastery
The church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary was founded in 1040. The monastery was badly destroyed in the Peasants' War of 1525. Extensive restoration work was carried out between 1960 and 1970.
The monastery was the house monastery and burial place of the Mansfeld counts. The simple yet beautiful church was consecrated in 1170. With its typical structure - west tower, three-aisled flat-roofed basilica, continuous transept, choir - the mighty masonry and the good lighting through the small arched windows, the monastery church conveys an impression of the Benedictines' conception of space.
