König Heinrichs Vogelherd
The early medieval castle complex above Pöhlde today consists of reconstructed remains of walls and dates back to the 9th century.
The castle was a frequent residence of the first German king, Henry I, who indulged in bird hunting here. According to legend, it was here in 919 that King Henry I received the news of his accession to the throne and the place was given its current name: "King Henry's Vogelherd".
