Experience culture at Herzberg Castle

Herzberg Castle, one of the last remaining half-timbered Guelph castles, sits enthroned in the heart of Herzberg am Harz. Within its walls is the Herzberg Castle Museum - a place where the eventful history of the House of Brunswick-Lüneburg comes to life.

The exhibitions are dedicated to the history of the Guelph dynasty and castle, including important exhibits such as a facsimile of Henry the Lion's Gospels. This is complemented by exciting insights into the town and economic history of Herzberg, such as the gun manufactory, the mills and the organ builder Engelhardt. A playable functional model with original organ parts invites visitors to make musical discoveries.

With activity stations for all age groups and barrier-free offers, the museum promotes cultural education and offers cross-generational access to history. Exhibitions on the development of the forest and the Esperanto movement also enrich the offer.

The museum is an integral part of the castle ensemble, which is currently being extensively renovated - with the aim of preserving the historical substance and creating space for new uses. This also includes a planned restaurant, which will set culinary accents in the future and round off a visit to the castle.

Together, the castle and museum form a cultural center that combines Guelph tradition with a lively present.
