The “Strassenbahn” has dominated the townscape of Nordhausen since 1900, but it is by no means antiquated.

On the contrary, the "Nordhäuser Modell" has been in use since May 2004. Combino Duo dual-system traction cars ensure a smooth transition from the tram network of Nordhausen to the rail network of Harzer Schmalspurbahnen GmbH (HSB - Harz Narrow Gauge Railway). While the tram line in the town of Nordhausen can be electrically powered using the overhead contact line, the HSB continues to be powered by diesel on the railway line.
