St. Andreasberg (Matthias-Schmidt-Berg)

In addition to spectacular views, it attracts winter sports enthusiasts with its varied pistes and fast descents. The ski area is well connected to the public transport network and offers parking directly at the ski center.

Due to the altitude and modern snow-making facilities, the ski slopes are relatively snow-sure. Most skiers come to St. Andreasberg from the major northern German cities of Hamburg, Hanover and Berlin to take advantage of the wide range of facilities. The range of slopes is varied: in addition to gentle family runs, there are steeper and more challenging slopes. Cross-country skiers and toboggan fans won't be bored in the region either. The Matthias-Schmidt-Berg offers many opportunities for adventure - in some cases even until late in the evening.

Cross-country skiers can choose from around 40 kilometers of groomed trails around St. Andreasberg with connections to Altenau and Torfhaus. The trails lead through the beautiful landscape of the national park. Two trails are prepared for skaters. In both ski areas there are toboggan runs for sledging fans of all ages, and in Teichtal the younger and young-at-heart winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy an exciting snowtubing facility. The tubes can also be easily attached to the lift so that you can comfortably take the lift up after the descent. If you prefer something a little less speedy, you can explore the snow-covered landscape in the Harz Nature Park around the climatic health resort of St. Andreasberg on foot or with snowshoes. The beautiful views of the snow-covered forests and the valley cloaked in white are well worth the effort. For a short breather and refreshment, the mountain inns offer their guests home-style cooking.
