Bad Harzburg

Bad Harzburg lies on the northern edge of the Harz mountains. Surrounded by forests, hiking trails and thermal springs, the town offers plenty of opportunities to combine nature and wellbeing.

Wellness and health
At the Bad Harzburg Sole-Therme you can relax in indoor and outdoor pools that are fed with healing natural brine from a depth of 840 metres. In addition to aqua fitness and gymnastics, there are therapeutic and relaxation treatments as well as a sauna area with nine different saunas. The infusion arena offers panoramic views of the Großer Burgberg. In the historic Wandelhalle in the spa gardens, you can drink healing water from the Bad Harzburg springs.

Experience nature – Harz treetop path
The Treetop Path Harz leads for about 1,000 metres through the tree crowns of the Kalte Tal valley at heights of up to 26 metres. At almost 50 interactive stations you can learn more about forestry, nature and the environment. It is considered the first barrier-free treetop path in Lower Saxony. It is supplemented by the Root Path, which illustrates the function of roots over a distance of 800 metres.

Gliding down the Burgberg in serpentines
With the BaumSchwebeBahn Harz you glide from the Burgberg down into the Kalte Tal valley. Over a distance of around 1,000 metres you “fly” through the forest at 12 to 15 km/h in curves and enjoy views that stretch as far as the Brocken.

Burgberg and hiking region
The Burgberg Cable Car, a large cabin lift from 1929, takes you up to 483 metres in height. At the top you can enjoy wide views over the northern Harz foothills and see remains such as the ruins of the old Harzburg and the Canossa Column. The Path of Reflection with eight stations invites you to pause and find peace.

From the Burgberg, hiking trails lead through the Bad Harzburg Hiking Experience Region. Around 900 kilometres of well‑maintained paths connect to the Harz National Park. Thematic routes include the Lynx Trail, Wildcat Hiking Experience, Kästeklippe Tour, Three‑Valleys Tour, Eckerstausee Circular Trail and Teufelsstieg Trail. The Lynx Trail carries the “German Hiking Seal” and is recognised as a premium trail.

Town, leisure and family
In the spa park at the foot of the Burgberg, the Lynx Fountain, a multi‑generation playground and a Kneipp pool offer a lot of variety. Along the Bummelallee with its shops, cafés and restaurants you can explore the town on foot.

If you want to be active, the sports park at the racecourse offers nine walking and jogging routes, an outdoor fitness course, areas for equestrian and ball sports as well as the Silberborn Pool (open May to November). In July, the Bad Harzburg Race Week attracts tens of thousands of visitors. The Harz Golf Club with 18 holes and many trees is scenically located on the edge of town. For families, there is the Golf and Soccer Park, the Adventure Golf Course, the Skyrope High Ropes Park, a wildlife enclosure and the Wildcat Enclosure at the Marienteich Lodge.

Throughout the year there are the Harzburg Music Days, the Mountain Marathon, the Salt and Light Festival and other events. In winter you can enjoy an open‑air ice rink and the Winter Meet‑Up in the town centre.
