Hahnenklee-Bockswiese

Hahnenklee-Bockswiese belongs to the town of Goslar and lies on a sunny high plateau in the Upper Harz. Blooming mountain meadows, clear lakes, small streams and dense forests spread all around the place.

Between 1907 and 1908, the wooden Stave Church was built here, inspired by Norwegian models. It is considered a landmark of the town.

The healthy climate, the varied landscape and many marked hiking trails make Hahnenklee a destination for hikers. In 2007 the Liebesbank Trail was added – a 7-kilometre premium circular hiking trail with 25 individually designed benches.

Circular tours can easily be combined with excursions – for example to the ponds and ditches of the Upper Harz Water Management system, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, or to Mount Bocksberg, 726 metres high. The Bocksberg Cable Car also leads there.

Mountain bikers can enjoy an extensive network of trails in the Volksbank Arena Harz. In the Hahnenklee Bike Park there are seven downhill tracks as well as BocksBergCarts and the BocksBergBob at the Bocksberg.

In the spa house, an exhibition displays documents about the town’s history, about the Berlin operetta artist Paul Lincke, who spent his final years here, and about the mining tradition in the Harz.

Every year on 30 April, Hahnenklee is transformed into a festival area for Walpurgis Night. The event is one of the biggest in the Harz Mountains.

In winter, the Bocksberg becomes a ski area. Two drag lifts, a practice lift, groomed slopes and snow cannons make skiing and snowboarding possible. There is also one of the longest toboggan runs in the Harz and a roughly 14-kilometre-long groomed cross-country trail.
