Torfhaus

Torfhaus lies 812 metres above sea level, making it the highest settlement in Lower Saxony within the Harz National Park. Surrounded by the park’s diverse landscape, the village offers direct access to many hiking trails and nature experiences.

At the National Park Visitor Centre, you can get comprehensive information about the area’s flora and fauna. You can also join guided tours through the moorlands or hike along the Goethe Trail.

The 65-metre-high Harz Tower dominates the village’s appearance. Several panoramic platforms offer you wide views across the Harz Mountains. On the glass-bottomed skywalk or the “Rasantia” adventure slide, you can experience the height in different ways. You can reach the tower either by lift or on foot.

In the cold season, Torfhaus turns into a winter sports centre with ski slopes, cross-country trails, and toboggan runs. Whether you ski, do cross-country skiing or go sledging – the conditions on the various routes and slopes are set up for it. You can find the latest information and offers on the Harz winter sports website.
