The route takes you from the Unstrut valley over the Kyffhäuser Mountains down into the Goldene Aue.

On the well-developed cycle path (a former railway line) you cycle to Ichstedt. Just before that, there is a nice rest area with the best view of the Kyffhäuser in front of you. The route continues on the Kyffhäuser circular route, where you will find another rest area with a view of the Kyffhäuser. In Tilleda, a visit to the imperial palace is worthwhile before you initially ascend quite steeply into the Kyffhäuser Mountains on a gravel path. A detour to the famous Kyffhäuser Monument is recommended, even though a short section on the road must be cycled to and from there. The route continues on narrower paths, past the Kulpenberg (TV tower), the highest mountain of the Kyffhäuser. The descent from Rahtsfeld runs partly on tank tracks but otherwise on gravel. At the bottom, a short detour to the Barbarossa Cave is recommended. On a lightly trafficked road, the route ascends slightly again over the Hüfler and then descends to Kelbra.
