From the Goldene Aue, this section goes through the karst landscape into the southern Harz.

From Kelbra, continue on the dam of the reservoir towards Berga. The Kyffhäuser Mountains and the Badrische Schweiz are now behind you, the mountains of the southern Harz are getting closer. Always near the Thyra, the route leads you upstream and under the A 38. A detour to the Heimkehle gypsum cave is recommended. Behind Stempeda, a longer climb begins up to the Neustadt reservoir, alternating between gravel and asphalt. From the Iberg flood control basin, the route leads along the Krebsbach to the reservoir, past some nice rest areas. A last steep section awaits you behind the reservoir before it then goes almost entirely downhill to Neustadt, the stage destination. The paths here are quite narrow – ride slowly and carefully! Along the way, a short detour to the Hohenstein castle ruins is definitely recommended, not only because of the wonderful view of the southern Harz foothills.
