The tour starts at the station in Stapelburg and then leads through the town to the former border. Afterwards, you reach Abbenrode and from there pass by the monument "Iron Curtain" over the Saßberg to Veckenstedt, one of the oldest towns in the northern Harz foothills. The pond farm in Veckenstedt offers fresh fish daily at the snack bar. From there, you return to Stapelburg.

The tour starts at Stapelburg station and leads through the town to the former border. There is plenty of information here and a
snack bar. After crossing the border river Ecker (Lower Saxony state border), you continue north.
The Muna in Schimmerwald. On 10.04.1945, a munitions factory in Schimmerwald was blown up. The large number of unexploded ordnances has been cleared over decades. Further on, you reach Abbenrode. Cleared around 964 by the monk Abbo, the village located on the Ecker river was first documented in 1086. You will learn beside Otto's mill in the home association's domicile how Wallenstein's troops brought the plague and why Napoleon wanted to raze Abbenrode to the ground. One of the few preserved former patrol paths can be found north of Abbenrode as part of the former border installations. Monument "Iron Curtain" Since 1996, a regional express crosses this former border and also the "Green Belt." A sculpture made of 50 tons of steel here commemorates the former Iron Curtain Artist: Claus Christian Wenzel. Here you cross the track gap closure connection to Lower Saxony, which was created after the reunification.
