This circular hiking route starts and ends in the Bodetal village of Altenbrak and leads you to the charcoal burning settlement Stemberghaus as well as to Schöneburg, an elevated viewpoint with a magnificent view over Altenbrak into the Bodetal.

The starting point of this partly quite steep hike is the central hiking signpost tree at the large car park in Altenbrak, from where it goes upstream following the Stemberghaus sign (green square) past historic old mining sites and by the Kleine Mühlental.
Leaving the Bodetal, you go steadily uphill through the Große Mühlental until you reach the charcoal burner settlement Stemberghaus (refreshments & museum).
The return route leads you on the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg (green witch) to the Schöneburg viewpoint, from where you have a unique view of Altenbrak. From here you now descend into the Bodetal to the trout breeding facility, and from there continue along the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg following the course of the Bode past the Große and Kleine Mühlental until you reach the starting point of the hike at the large car park.
