Along the „Green Window“ you will find a beautiful, varied approximately 12 kilometer long hiking trail through the city center, parks, fields, and along the idyllic watercourse of the Schildau. A path that is unique due to the alternation between dreamy stream valleys and magnificent panoramic views. You will be guided on narrow paths and footpaths past the mystical Silberhohl, historic places and buildings to wonderful views and perspectives of the city and the surrounding area. Enjoy it!

Directions

The starting point is at the „Window to the Harz“ at Jacobsonplatz. Through the archway, you reach Bismarckstraße. Keep right until the curve. Cross the street at the „pedestrian crossing aid“ and go up Bergstraße. Turn left at Bergstraße 39 to „Tilly’s Table“. Then return to Bergstraße and continue left to the edge of the forest. At the fork, keep right and walk to Dehneplatz. Once there, go left downhill and at the next fork turn right into Oberförster-Hahn-Weg. Stay on the path for about one kilometer and then follow the left sign down the narrow path to the Forellenstieg bridge. Cross the bridge and then the Lautenthaler Straße, at the exit of Seesen. Then continue left into Steinway Park. When you see the concert shell, keep left and you will reach the stamp box. Follow the main path past the ponds, continue along the Schildau, past the tennis courts, then left over the bridge and immediately right on a narrow path to Kampstraße.

Half of the route is now completed. If you wish to end the tour here, keep left to return to the city center. Cross Lautenthaler Straße and continue right towards the inner city.

The circular hiking trail continues right and then left into Talstraße. After about 100m, go left down the stairs and continue along the Schildau to Zimmerstraße. Cross Zimmerstraße and continue on a narrow path left along the Schildau, then under the railway bridge and left into the next path, which you follow to the exit of the town at Braunschweiger Straße.

Cross the street and follow the forest path to the sports fields. Pass the sports field on the left, immediately turn right behind the bridge past the „pump house“ to the junction at Silberhohl. Turn left and go uphill. At the end, turn right, then keep left, the next junction left again and then right uphill. Follow the gravel path to reach the Great Schildberg. Continue onto Carpentrasweg, turn right into Wantageweg and proceed via Schützenallee to Sehusa Park.

Optionally, you can visit the Municipal Museum and St. Andreas Church.

Past the Ratskeller, Burg Sehusa, the town hall, and the Wilhelm Busch statue, you then turn left back to the starting point at Jacobsonplatz.

Directions & Parking facilities

The parking garage "Markthaus" on Bahnhofsstraße 16 is just a few meters from Jacobsonplatz.
