Directions

This route begins at Bad Harzburg station, although you can also alternatively start at the station in Vienenburg. Initially, it goes along Herzog-Julius-Straße towards B 4. Under the B 4 bridge, take the left immediately to climb Butterberg. Once there, a field path leads straight down to Westerode. In Westerode, turn right onto Bettingeröder Straße and then immediately turn left onto a field path. You reach district road 46, onto which you turn left. You pass under the B 6 and then immediately turn right. This path runs for a while parallel to the federal highway. Then it bends left and takes you, passing between the gravel ponds, to the railway line. Immediately after crossing the railway tracks, keep right and follow them. After crossing the tracks again, you reach Lierestraße. You follow it into the center of Vienenburg. Here you can visit the railway museum in Germany's oldest preserved station, take a short detour to Wöltingerode monastery, or take a break at Vienenburg lake before continuing your tour. Then it goes along Goslarer and Wiedelaher Straße to Wiedelah. There, turn right into Amtstraße. Via Zollweg, you reach Osterwiecker Straße, along which you ride a short stretch back towards Vienenburg. Just behind the A 395 underpass, turn left onto a field path. This leads straight to a bridge over federal highway 6. On the other side, use the field path, turn left at the end towards Bettingerode, and follow the road layout to Westerode. In Westerode, turn left immediately at the town entrance and soon pass Krodoland. Just before the underpass, turn right. Then the path leads you back up the Butterberg. You already know the remaining meters back to the station from the start of this tour. Upon arrival at the station, a stroll through the Bad Harzburg pedestrian zone is highly recommended, and numerous cafes and restaurants invite you to relax and end the day peacefully.
