The charming half-timbered town of Osterode is the starting point of the hike. From here, from the Harz Grain Magazine (now the town hall), the food supply for the ore miners was once secured. Along the historic Hundscher Weg, after two hours of ascent, we reach Marienblick, a wonderful viewpoint into the Lerbach valley.
The route continues on beautiful forest paths past the Bärenbrucher pond to Buntenbock, the quiet and idyllic district of Clausthal-Zellerfeld.

Directions
We start our hike in Osterode am Harz. The entry portal at the "Bleichestelle" car park is easy to find. Before this, during our stroll through the historic old town, we admired the impressive town hall, the former Harz Grain Magazine. From here, donkey caravans once set off for the Upper Harz. On today's Harzer-Hexen-Stieg, they brought the necessary bread grain to the miners, since arable farming was and is hardly possible in the harsh climate there.
The path rises steadily but gently and offers beautiful views back to the starting point Osterode and the vast western Harz foothills. First through open landscape, it soon leads us into the forest. The spruce is still the dominant tree of the Upper Harz and the scent of its resin accompanies us, passing clearings, viewpoints, and rest areas such as the Eselsplatz, with its replica charcoal burner’s hut. Finally, the forest opens up and the Clausthal plateau, dotted with old mining ponds and mountain meadows, lies ahead of us.
