A very steep but scenic route to stamp point 89 (Harzer Wandernadel) at Schornsteinberg directly at the cave village Rübeland with a visit to the Baumann Cave Rübeland.

The small circular hiking trail offers you great views of the cave village Rübeland and the Brocken massif. You hike a small steep footpath to Schornsteinberg. Here you enjoy the wonderful view of Rübeland.

Directly at the viewpoint "Schornsteinberg" there is a "Bienotel". A display stand and a life-sized carved miner, who harbors a bee colony inside his belly, convey a lot of interesting information about bees, their life, protection and habitat, and the stamp box of the Harzer Wandernadel.

Then continue over an open meadow landscape towards Baumann Cave. From the Baumann Cave you start the return route directly through the village until you reach your starting point.

Directions

Our hike starts at the parking lot of the outdoor pool "Bodeperle" in the cave village of Rübeland, which we pass on the right to leave the parking lot heading towards the rock formation.

A small, narrow path leads us behind a house to the Schornsteinberg. After about 300 m, we reach the Schornsteinberg via an ascent of about 80 metres in altitude, rewarding us with a fantastic view of Rübeland.

At Schornsteinberg stands stamp point 89 of the Harzer Wandernadel. The name of the mountain comes from the fact that the approximately 6 m high chimney of the carbonization plant used to be here.

Continuing on the circular route "Blauer See" towards the Baumann Cave of the dripstone caves Rübeland. On the way to the Baumann Cave, one encounters the old exit of the cave. On the hiking trail from Schornsteinberg towards the cave, there is a nice view of the Upper Harz and the surrounding meadow landscape.

At the end of the hike, not only the "Baumann Cave" but also the "Hermann Cave" invite you to guided tours.

It is recommended to hike the route also in the opposite direction.

Equipment

Sturdy footwear and rain gear are recommended. Don't forget your Harzer Wandernadel stamp booklet and the camera.
