The route takes you through the villages west of Bad Gandersheim and some neighboring towns.

The path runs almost entirely on bike paths, paved field and forest roads, and on side streets.

At the starting point of the route, you have the opportunity to experience the history of Gandersheim, for example with a walk through the old town, as a guest in the municipal museum, or by visiting the Romanesque collegiate church with the exhibition "Rediscovering treasures".

Additionally, the pumped-storage power plant in Erzhausen, as well as the Greener Castle and the museum in Greene, offer worthwhile visits.

Directions

This route starts in the city center and we ride westward along Steinweg and St Georg Street to turn right after Heckenbeck. On our way, we pass under the ICE track, then soon arrive at Heckenbeck. We follow the street through the town and turn right at the town exit towards Beulshausen (climb!). We turn right again and reach Beulshausen. We stay on the road until after about 2 km we turn left to Erzhausen. Worth seeing is the pumped-storage power station commissioned in 1964. We ride back the same way but turn right before the Leine bridge. We are now on the Leine bike path heading towards Greene. We ride up to the main road and then right. Ahead of us is the railway viaduct built in 1865. We turn left behind the viaduct. Now it goes up to Greener Castle, which offers a good stop. Then we continue down to the right and turn left again to the country road, where we head right. After about 300 m, we turn left over the Leine bridge. Straight ahead, it goes through the Leine meadows to Kreiensen. Then we continue on the bike path along federal road 64 to Orxhausen. We pass through the town and turn left before the town exit. This way we return to our starting point Bad Gandersheim.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

In the district of Heckenbeck, the World Stage offers a varied program throughout the year with cabaret, concerts, and comedy in a "rustic" atmosphere.

You should not miss the annual Gandersheim Cathedral Festival held every summer against the special backdrop of the west portal of the collegiate church.
