Teufelsmauer circular route

The tour starts at the tourist information center at Schnappelberg. The app leads you out of town via Helsunger Straße and along the beautiful orchard avenue towards the Helsunger Krug guesthouse. You cross the disused railway line between Blankenburg and Thale. At the Helsunger Krug guesthouse, turn right onto the country road, which takes you uphill to the village of Timmenrode. From Westerhäuser Str., turn left onto Silberweg, which becomes a bike street. From here, you almost roll by itself to Warnstedt. A short stop at the nature info point is worthwhile.  

Arriving in the windmill village of Warnstedt, follow the main road to the right (there is a roadside walkway). The landmark of the village, a tower windmill built in 1855, can be found on the left at the village’s exit after passing through the small private housing estate. Until 1941, this mill ground the grain of local farmers. The mill's location on a hill offers a wonderful view of the surroundings. This panorama will accompany you for the next few kilometers.

Neue Warnstedter Straße takes you towards Weddersleben. Paper has been produced in the small village for 460 years. The history can be experienced in the local paper museum. If you don't visit it, you pass Weddersleben only at the village edge (via Thalenser Weg, Höferweg—you ride directly towards Mittelstein here—Teufelsmauerstraße, Wedderslebener Mühlenstraße, and along the mill ditch). Here you'll find a great perspective on the magnificent Königsstein.

If you want to experience the rock up close, we recommend locking your bike at the start point of the local circular hiking trail and taking a few steps on foot along the sandstone rock massif. Friends of the Harz Hiking Badge, which also allows cyclists to collect stamps, will find stamp No. 188 here. The app guides you from here along the Bode through an idyllic floodplain landscape towards Thale.

You can enjoy a view of the town in front of the steep walls of Bodetal from the orchard-lined path over the small ridge, which branches off once more to the right from the Bode path. From here, Warnstedt and Weddersleben lie picturesquely at the foot of the Teufelsmauer. Even Blankenburg Castle can be seen from here.

Behind the allotment gardens, the path, which becomes quite rough downhill, leads to Blankenburger Straße. Follow the main road (a footpath and a traffic light are available) to the "Wasserwelt Thale" and turn left into the Silberbach valley. At the idyllic Gondelteich, the "Old Boathouse" invites you to rest. A short climb after crossing the Silberbach leads to the "Rübchen" guesthouse.

Shortly after, you will find the signposting of bike path R1, which you can now follow through Benneckenrode, the Eggerode forester's lodge, Wienrode and Cattenstedt to the Great Castle in Blankenburg.

The app leads you through the castle park from here. Out of consideration for the many walkers, we recommend deviating and using the paved road (Lindenallee and Vogelherd). Via Schnappelberg, you reach the starting point.
