Through the emerging forest wilderness of the Harz National Park

In the Harz National Park, we give nature space to develop freely. On the Wilderness Trail near Altenau, you can gain insights into how a commercial forest becomes a natural forest again. Climate change and bark beetles have triggered a massive upheaval here in recent years. Walk through our "Wilderness Circular Trail" with only 800 meters in length and experience the various forest habitats of the National Park while observing how nature reclaims its original terrain and deciduous forests return.

At nine stations, information boards with further QR codes offer exciting information about forest communities and habitats. At a special stamping station of the Harz Hiking Badge, stamp collectors can press a special stamp for the "Wilderness Explorer" badge into the National Park companion booklet.
