24th Blankenburg Sternthaler Christmas Market
Various booths and stalls will once again offer practical and beautiful items, and refreshments will be available. The Fairy Tale Walk is set to enchant children and parents alike with its magical beauty and a few small changes. In the afternoon, stories about Christmas will be told once again, and the Christmas pyramid will be on display: At its base, a train set for our little ones will be set up again this year.
On Friday, December 4, an “opening concert” will once again kick off the market with music at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Among others, the gospel choir “Um Himmels Willen,” the Blankenburg Singing Society, the Martin Luther Elementary School choir, and the trombone choir will provide the necessary music, though there will also be a surprise or two in store.
Santa Claus will grace us with his presence when the Sternthal Christmas Market is officially opened by the Sternthal Girl. A colorful program is planned on stage throughout the 10 days of the market. The duo AniLorak will perform, as will Percived as One, Die Tagelöhner, and Los Cubanos have all been announced, among others. Frizzi will perform both solo and together with Rex Brandenburg. Jazzy Christmas will take the stage on the first Saturday, not to mention the children from the Blankenburg GVS daycare centers. A few more surprises are already in the works.
On Thursday, December 10, the association, together with the Blankenburg Lions Club, invites you to Entrepreneurs’ Day, because a stroll through the Christmas market accompanied by the festive sounds of tenor horns or carols perfectly captures the cozy atmosphere of a Christmas celebration that isn’t too hectic.
When, on Sunday, December 13, at 4:00 p.m., the Telemann Chamber Orchestra Michaelstein, together with the Blankenburg Choir and other singers, strikes up the notes for the “Christmas Oratorio” by Johann Sebastian Bach under the direction of Jonas Kraus, it will slowly signal the conclusion of this year’s market. The association members hope that all visitors and guests will have a wonderful time at the market.
Of course, Sternthaler coins will be available again this year—especially those from previous years—to help complete personal collections.
As in previous years, the market is open daily from 3:00 p.m. and closes at 8:00 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, it stays open until 9:00 p.m.
