8th stage Great experience bike tour: Sondershausen - Volkenroda

From Sondershausen, you ride over Jechaburg into the western Hainleite, where the path is somewhat challenging in sections due to coarse gravel and slabs. In good weather, a detour to Frauenberg, which offers a unique view of Sondershausen and the surroundings, is worthwhile. Also, at the edge of the forest of the Hainleite, there is an impressive view of the Thuringian Basin and the adjacent mountain ranges. After a pleasant descent, the route leads you to Schernberg on the Unstrut-Werra cycle path. On paved roads, you ride through Ebeleben, which can already be recognized from a distance by the silo facility. As an easy option, the Unstrut-Werra cycle path can be taken up to Ebeleben, where a detour to the Ebeleben castle park is worthwhile. The cycle path then continues past the "tank cemetery" near Rockensußra to Schlotheim and Körner. The stage ends with a final climb to the Volkenroda monastery, which can already be seen from afar on the hill.
