Directions

Our adventure tour begins in Wernigerode, the colorful town on the Brocken. Already here, the beautiful old town with its many half-timbered houses, restaurants, and sights invites you to stop and stroll.
To start, we leave Wernigerode heading towards Elbingerode on the B244. We follow it continuously until the Rappbode Reservoir. It is worth stopping to cross one of the world's longest suspension bridges. For those not yet satisfied, the »Gigaswing« is another adrenaline-fueled attraction to try.

We continue following the road towards Hasselfelde. On the way there, directly to the left at the B81 is the Harz Charcoal Burning Site Stemberghaus. Here, the charcoal burners provide insight into the traditional craft. The earth kilns produce the beech charcoal awarded with »Typical Harz«. The charcoal burner’s hut with gastronomy and grilling offers can be reached directly for a break. Shortly before reaching Hasselfelde, the Western Town Pullman City is on the left side. Fans of cowboys and Indians can experience life from the Wild West era here. If desired, visitors can try bows and arrows, pan for gold themselves, or switch to horse power.
Following the road, we soon arrive at Hasselfelde. Here we continue on the B242 and go straight at the traffic light towards Stiege. This route features beautiful curves that should not be underestimated on the first ride. Another highlight of this tour is the Joseph Cross, the largest iron double cross in the world. It towers on Joseph’s Height near Schwenda and visitors can enjoy an excellent panoramic view of the region. In good weather, the view even reaches the cathedral towers of Magdeburg. Since we are already nearby, a short drive to the Kyffhäuser is close. It is one of the most famous and at the same time notorious motorcycle routes in Central Germany. Almost every day severe accidents happen there, so: approach slowly!
Many of the curves are difficult for visitors unfamiliar with the area to judge and are therefore very dangerous. Once safely arrived, a detour to the Kyffhäuser Monument is worth it. It is Germany's second largest national monument and commemorates Emperor Wilhelm I.
Once at the top, we continue to cross over to Bad Frankenhausen. From there, we continue via Sondershausen to Nordhausen. Then on through Ilfeld and at the Netzkater junction we turn left onto the B4. Via Benneckenstein and Tanne past the meadows of the Harz Red Mountain Cattle, we return to Elbingerode and finally back to Wernigerode.

A nice end to the tour is a stop at the Baumkuchen House in Wernigerode. There, the Baumkuchen is traditionally made on site. Every Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. interested visitors can watch the show baking. Each layer of the Baumkuchen is applied and baked individually.
