The former railway line between Walkenried and Braunlage is ideal for exploring the South Harz by bike or on foot. 

The approximately 25 km long route features a moderate but steady incline and can be divided into several stages. It leads from Walkenried through Wieda, up to Stöberhai station, and then on to Brunnenbachsmühle before reaching Braunlage.

Numerous information boards, museums, and relics bear witness to the historical past of the region.
