High culture by the wayside
Numerous sacred buildings and secular manors lie along the Innerste cycle route. A highlight is the Market Church in Clausthal-Zellerfeld – the largest wooden church in Germany. In Hildesheim, St. Andreas with the highest church tower in Lower Saxony, Michaeliskirche and the cathedral with the famous thousand-year-old rose bush shine brightly. Also impressive: the castles in the Middle Innerste valley – Baroque Castle Liebenburg (Baroque church, sculpture park), Ringelheim Castle (monastery church, Baroque organ), Derneburg Castle (Laves cultural trail, glass house) and Oelber Castle (former moated castle of the century), all of which are privately owned.
Thousand-year mining history
The mining landscape comes alive in the Harz. Experience the water engineering of the Upper Harz water management, visit the Upper Harz Mining Museum in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, the 19-Lachter Stoll in Wildemann, the mining museum and historic silver mine in Lautenthal and the Rammelsberg visitor mine in Goslar.
