Pilgrimage

Harzer Klosterwanderweg - Kloster Drübeck - Rucksack
Jens Friedrich | CC-BY

On the Harzer Monastery Trail, you can bring body, mind and soul into harmony. Over 116 kilometres between Goslar and Halberstadt, seven stages lead you through a landscape full of monasteries and churches. Whether alone, in a group or accompanied by experienced pilgrimage guides – you decide how deeply you experience this path. On guided one- and multi-day pilgrim tours, you combine movement, encounters and spiritual impulses. Exercises, conversations, silence and singing together create space for personal experiences. If you want to walk all the stages, you can book the hiking week “Hiking without luggage”. Overnight stays, luggage transport and a joint pilgrimage start and closing programme are organised for you.

Along the way, the so-called angel benches also invite you to take a break. They bear words of blessing – small pauses of calm and inspiration between the stages.

You can find more information at www.harzer-klosterwanderweg.de.

"Angel benches" for the Harz Monastery Trail
Along the Harz Monastery Trail, the angel benches invite you to rest and enjoy the view. The idea arose in a project group of tourism experts, pilgrimage guides and church representatives to make the trail even more inspiring.

Each bench is handmade and has a QR code that lets you access information about the specific location and the history of the trail. The angel benches are placed in scenic spots and offer space to pause, reflect and enjoy.

The design comes from the Blankenburg wood artist Werner Fleck. The project was made possible through the personal commitment of the pastor couple Lundbeck. They say about the benches: “They inspire those who choose to sit on them.”
