The Westerturm-Ensemble

Once erected as a city gate, the Westerturm with its control rooms, ramparts and walls is part of the city's sophisticated medieval fortification system. The lovingly restored town wall with its battlements and towers conveys a vivid image of days of yesteryear.
No matter from which direction you approach Duderstadt, your gaze will always be captivated by the tower with its elegant left-twisting helmet. There are quite a number of twisted towers in German-speaking areas, but none with such harmonious lines as the Westerturm in Duderstadt.
