Directions
Our starting point is the Collegiate Church. From here we head east,
along Bismarkstraße, straight over the traffic light intersection, then turn right towards Wrescherode. We follow the road past the Schachtenbeck estate and turn right to Ellierode. Now the route goes uphill to Ellierode. We pass through the village and continue on the country road to Wiershausen. In the village, take the first street on the right, then continue on the bike path to Sebexen. Next, turn right and then left onto the next street. We follow this until we reach country road 445. Continue on the country road and turn left after Osterbruch. We cross the museum railway track and arrive at Oyershausen.
Turn left to continue to Opperhausen. We cross the railway crossing and after about 200 meters turn right. This path leads us to Haieshausen. Before entering the village, we turn right to the country road and then left. After about 500 meters, a field path branches off to the right. We are now on the long-distance bike path R1. The path continues to the left along the Leine River. We stay on this path, cross the Gande, and then follow the road on the right to Kreiensen. At the outskirts of Kreiensen, continue on the bike path alongside federal road 64 to the exit for Heckenbeck (about 1.5 km), where we turn left (incline!). Shortly before the hilltop, a detour to the natural monument of the twin beech tree is worthwhile. Then follows a nice descent to Heckenbeck. At the village entrance, we pass the cemetery where the composer Albert Methfessel was buried in 1869. We ride through the village past the church and continue on the country road back to Bad Gandersheim.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
In the Heckenbeck district, the Weltbühne offers a varied program throughout the year with cabaret, concerts, and comedy in a "rustic" atmosphere.
Do not miss the annual Gandersheimer Cathedral Festival in summer, set against the special backdrop of the west portal of the Collegiate Church.
