The challenging Harz crossing leads from the western edge of the Harz through the High Harz into the northeastern Harz foothills.

The route first leads into the heights of the western Harz, where some beautiful viewpoints can be found. Then the route descends into the Upper Harz Water Regale, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010. In this area, the tour passes several ponds and ditches. Since the ponds are located on a plateau, there are hardly any elevation gains in this part of the route – time to pause and catch your breath. From now on, the route goes right through the High Harz, where some steep climbs have to be mastered. Again and again, the rider is rewarded with beautiful views. Finally, the Brocken is also conquered from Schierke via the Brocken road; with 1142m, it is the highest mountain in northern Germany. After that, it’s mostly downhill towards Ilsenburg.
