The route
The Harzer BaudenSteig, with its almost 100 kilometres in length, is divided into six stages. From Bad Grund, the route leads via Lerbach, Sieber, Bad Lauterberg, Bad Sachsa and Wieda to Walkenried, passing through deciduous and mixed forests, gentle valleys and heights with wide views across the Harz foothills.
On this page, you can find an overview of all stages. When you click on a stage tour, a detailed description opens with a map, elevation profile and selected points along the route.
There you can also download the appropriate GPX data for your digital navigation or save a PDF with all the information for printing.
The Harzer BaudenSteig offers something for everyone. For leisure hikers, we recommend walking the six stages as we describe them in the tour portal. Only the first stage is a bit more challenging. If you want to have enough time at the end in Walkenried to visit the monastery with the World Heritage information centre and still travel back to Bad Grund or home, then simply walk directly to Zorge on stage 5. That way, on the last day, there are only about 12 km left. For families with young children, we especially recommend stages 3 and 4, as they are not too long and there are numerous lookout towers and children’s attractions.
